Hollywood Mural Project

This mural was done on the west facing wall of the Seventh Day Adventist Church on the corner of Hollywood Blvd. and the 101 Freeway in Hollywood, CA. The design was executed by myself and a local painting company.

The intention was to unify the exterior, not only keeping with the design of the original tower structure, but to enhance it.

I wanted to make the wall appear not so "wallish", to illude to approachability. Even though the doors appear to be shut, the "arches" create spaces which invite.

I chose to form a design which emphasized the louver style of the tower windows and imitated the cluster designs of the collection of smaller windows which appear on the front of the tower structure (below right). The end product was accomplished with paint only.
It works!

Before starting, the wall was long (210 feet) and bare and subject to grafitti. Now, when one passes the building complex, one finds that the wall has "dissappeared" and what remains is a unified building.
